Special Wines for Summertime

IL TERRAZZO features wines which encapsulate everything we love about summer drinking. Delicate and perfumed, they offer plenty of complexity and finesse and are perfect alongside the beautiful ingredients that fill the markets at this time of year.

Clé à Molette 2022
Jura, France

A blend of Chardonnay and Molette picked in the vineyards of Domaine Trichon in Bugey. The fruit was pressed directly and left to rest in cuve until the following summer. Pale straw yellow in the glass, a touch of gas carries delicate scents of smoke and alpine flowers, with green citrus bringing refreshment in spades. A beautiful apéritif.

Molette, Chardonnay

Roero Arneis 2023
Piedmont, Italy

A blend of two parcels of Arneis in the valley Luca calls home. The first comes from younger vines planted over soft sand and was picked early and given a direct press straight to stainless steel vats. The latter is planted over more compact soils, picked a little later and spends ten days in contact with the skins before being pressed off to old oak. They spend around nine months in these vessels before blending. It is a wine of real balance, the fruit and flowers tempered by pleasant acidity and that textbook salty finish.

Bar Luna 2022
Umbria, Italy

A blend of Procanico and Semillon from forty five year old vines planted over sandy loam in Orvieto, fermented as whole bunches for a week before being pressed off to vats for a year of rest. Deep amber in the glass, this is a little more mellow, fleshy and full, making it the perfect foil to Umbria’s rich, rustic fare.

Procanico, Semillon

Nerocapitano 2023
Sicily, Italy

Nerocapitano is what the locals in Filippo’s village call Frappato. The fruit here comes from twenty year old vines planted over clay and sandstone. The grapes were fermented on the skins for a fortnight, before being pressed off to concrete vats to rest. Light, bright and perfumed with red cherry, blood orange and wildflowers – served chilled, this is one of our favourite summer reds.

ZiD(u) 2021
Auvergne, France

From thirty year old vines of Syrah planted over limestone in Rieux-Minervois, this sees the variety reimagined under the watchful eye of Catherine. A gleaming ruby in the glass, this shows the grape at its most pretty, perfumed and playful. Compact and elegant, a cascade of blackberries, minerals and cracked pepper add plenty of vigour and intrigue, making for something truly one-of-a-kind.

Uzetia 2021
Languedoc, France

Grenache from a forty year old parcel planted over clay and limestone in Bourdic. The grapes were harvested in two passages, with the first parcel, planted over limestone, partly direct-pressed and partly macerated for a couple of days. A week later the grapes planted over clay were picked and macerated for a further week. After pressing, the wine was assembled into a large acacia cask for a year of élevage. Heady with sunkissed berries, herbs and stones, this is a wine with a beautiful sense of place.
