LE COSTE
Litrozzo Bianco 2022 [1 L]
Lazio, Italy
A cult classic which has become synonymous with summer. This year’s is a blend of Procanico and Malvasia, with some Roscetto, Verdello, Petino and Romanesco in the mix. It was fermented on the skins for two days before a short ageing in vats and was bottled by the litre, young and brimming with energy. A hazy shade of gold, it is a little more savoury than previous vintages, with a touch more flesh and grip. Perhaps the ultimate picnic wine.

This highly original take on Grolleau Gris comes from a parcel of thirty year old vines planted over clay and limestone. The grapes were pressed directly to cuve, where the wine rested until the following spring. A hazy shade of sunset in the glass, this pairs ripe, tropical fruit, sea salt and stones to brilliant effect, making for a formidable apéritif.

Veneto, Italy
Garganega from vines up to thirty years old, planted over the region’s volcanic soils. This was fermented on the skins for three days with some whole bunches, before resting in concrete vats on lees for nine months. A brilliant shade of gold, this is a great expression of the land, with stone fruits, smoke and minerals combining to beautiful effect.

Pierrot 2022
Roussillon, France
Grenache from a friend’s vineyards planted over clay and limestone in Calce. Around a third of the grapes were destemmed, whilst the remainder was kept as whole bunches. After four days of maceration, the grapes were pressed off to vats until the spring after harvest. Light, bright and crunchy, here a riot of red fruits is seasoned gently with herbs and spice. A wine full of southern charm, offering rays of sunshine during these cooler months.

Loire, France
Cabernet Sauvignon from a forty five year old parcel planted over schist. The grapes were fermented as whole bunches for a fortnight before being pressed to cuve for a year of élevage. This pairs varietal notes of red fruit, earth and warm spices with the gentle imprint of graphite from the schist. A highly original expression of this much maligned variety that keeps us coming back for more.

Pi No Champettt 2020
Jura, France
This highly original Pinot Noir from comes from a fifty year old plot planted over Kimmerdgian limestone in the village of Loches-sur-Ource in the Aube. After a fortnight of maceration as whole bunches, this was pressed to large casks for a year of ageing. Tightly wound and almost featherweight on the palate, its delicate frame carries complex notes of red berries, earth and chalk. Delicious now, it will evolve beautifully over the coming years.
