Complex Wines for the Season

L’AUTUNNO features a collection of savoury, complex wines to complement autumn’s larder. Offering layers of depth and intrigue, they are perfect for celebrating around the table with the best the season has to offer.

DIDIER CAZAC
Farnienté 2021
Ardèche, France

This is essentially a blend of Aïssada and Déjanté, with a direct press of Grenache Blanc and maceration of Marsanne being assembled after fermentation in a single old barrique for a short élevage. The result is a striking, golden wine of real complexity that impresses with its pristine stone fruits and clean, stony minerals.

Grenache Blanc, Marsanne

TUTTI FRUTTI ANANAS
Toranja 2021
Roussillon, France

A direct press of Grenache Gris and Macabeo from a parcel planted over pure schist. A little reduced on opening, it carries a gentle spritz and offers real refreshment through a combination of minerals, lemons and sea salt. A wine with an almost tonic-like quality, it is an excellent way to begin a meal.

Grenache Gris, Macabeo

GUTTAROLO
Violet 2022
Puglia, Italy

This wonderful rosato of Primitivo was fermented on the skins for a day, fermented in porcelain amphorae and then moved to vats for a short rest. A gorgeous shade of sunset, it draws you in with tart berries, blood orange, sea salt and brine. An invigorating wine that is oh-so-suited to aperitivo, particularly alongside some crudo di mare.

Primitivo

LE COSTE
Litrozzo Rosso 2022 [1L]
Lazio, Italy

A blend of Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo and Merlot from Montefiascone that were destemmed and spent just a few days on skins, before being pressed off to cuve to rest until bottling in spring. This really impresses with crisp, clean notes of red cherry and strawberry, framed by the neatest of tannins. All one could ask for from a vino da tavola.

Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Merlot

LES ÂNES AILÉS
Pierrot 2022
Roussillon, France

Grenache from a friend’s vineyards planted over clay and limestone in Calce. Around a third of the grapes were destemmed, whilst the remainder was kept at whole bunches. After four days of maceration, the grapes were pressed off to vats until the spring after harvest. Light, bright and crunchy, here a riot of red fruits is seasoned gently with herbs and spice. A wine full of southern charm, which offers rays of sunshine during these cooler months.

Grenache

LAMBERT SPIELMANN
Complètement Red 2022
Alsace, France

Pinot Noir from a twenty five year old parcel planted over sandstone in Nothalten, fermented as whole bunches for a week before being pressed off to a mix of old barrels and vats until the following spring. Lambert has navigated the warmth of the vintage beautifully here, producing a gently perfumed and elegant wine that sums up everything we love about Pinot from this part of the world.
