ROSSO offers a rotating selection of our favourite reds of the moment. Whether light, bright and nimble wines from cooler climes, or the deep, savoury and soothing things we enjoy from the Mediterranean, the common thread is purity, energy and intrigue.

LE BATOSSAY
Ouech’ Cousin 2023
Loire, France
Grolleau from a parcel of fifty year old vines surrounded by forest and planted over loam, that has been in the Cousins’ family for generations. The grapes were fermented for three weeks as whole bunches, before being pressed to cuve for a short rest. Light, bright and crunchy, it pours ruby red, serving up the variety’s tell-tale black and blue fruits, earth and spice with plenty of charm. Served chilled, it makes for a formidable bistro wine.

GUTTAROLO
Lamie delle Vigne 2024
Puglia, Italy
Primitivo from vines up to fifty years old, destemmed and fermented on the skins for a week, before being pressed to large porcelain amphorae to rest until the following spring. This is one of the most compelling examples of the grape we have tried, offering dark, southern fruit seasoned with refreshing notes of herbs and spice.

LAMORESCA
Lamoresca Rosso 2023
Sicily, Italy
A blend of Nero d’Avola and Frappato from vines planted over sandstone and clay, high in the hills outside San Michele di Ganzaria. The former was fermented on the skins for two months, then aged in old wooden casks for just over a year, whilst the latter spent around a week on the skins and was aged in concrete. The two were the blended to produce a wine that is a little more compact and elegant than previous vintages, its southern fruit and bitter herbs framed by some neat tannins, making it a wonderful companion for the rustic dishes of Sicily’s interior.
