ROSSO offers a rotating selection of our favourite reds of the moment. Whether light, bright and nimble wines from cooler climes, or the deep, savoury and soothing things we enjoy from the Mediterranean, the common thread is purity, energy and intrigue.

CLAIRE AND FLORENT BEJON
Saint Germain 2023
Loire, France
A blend of four tiny parcels of old vines of Cabernet Franc, which total less than a hectare and are planted over a combination of sand and limestone. The grapes infused as whole bunches for six weeks before being pressed to old demi-muids and amphorae for a year of rest. Reflecting the vintage, this is heady with brambly fruit, earth and pepper, and is awash with the kind of cleansing acidity that keeps us coming back for more.

JÉRÔME LAMBERT
Le Fil Rouge 2023
Loire, France
Gamay from sixty year old vines planted over sandy loam. The grapes fermented as whole bunches for a week before being pressed to vats until the following summer. Luminous in the glass, this impresses with a cascade of tart red fruits and waves of cleansing acidity. As good an expression of the grape as you’ll find in these parts.

LAMORESCA
Lamoresca Rosso 2023
Sicily, Italy
A blend of Nero d’Avola and Frappato from vines planted over sandstone and clay, high in the hills outside San Michele di Ganzaria. The former was fermented on the skins for two months, then aged in old wooden casks for just over a year, whilst the latter spent around a week on the skins and was aged in concrete. The two were the blended to produce a wine that is a little more compact and elegant than previous vintages, its southern fruit and bitter herbs framed by some neat tannins, making it a wonderful companion for the rustic dishes of Sicily’s interior.
