ROSSO offers a rotating selection of our favourite reds of the moment. Whether light, bright and nimble wines from cooler climes, or the deep, savoury and soothing things we enjoy from the Mediterranean, the common thread is purity, energy and intrigue.
JÉRÔME LAMBERT
Le Zu defruit 2022
Loire, France
From two parcels of old vines planted over sandy loam, the grapes fermented as whole bunches for eleven days, before being pressed off to rest for nine months in fibreglass vats. From a warmer vintage, this is a little deeper than last year’s effort, though it retains plenty of charm with its woodsy notes of berries, earth and spice.
Grolleau
OLIVIER BOULIN
Fenêtre sur Lantignié 2021
Jura, France
Gamay from seventy year old vines planted over pink granite farmed by the Collonge family in the Beaujolais village of Lantignié. The grapes were fermented on the skins for almost a month, before being pressed over several days to old casks for a year of rest. Reflecting the vintage, this is delicate and nuanced, displaying a pleasant tension and a touch of finesse.
Gamay
GRÉGORY GUILLAUME
L’Excentrique 2021
Ardèche, France
Merlot from twenty year old vines hidden away in the hills, which undergoes around a month of carbonic maceration followed by élevage in old barrels for ten months. A little shy on opening, a touch of air reveals a wine full of Southern charm, pairing plum, black fig, earth and spice to beautiful effect. A versatile wine that would work beautifully alongside a leg of lamb.
