DOMAINE DE CHASSORNEY
Saint-Romain Sous Roche 2022
Burgundy, France
From fifty year old vines of Pinot Noir planted in one of the steepest, shallowest parts of Saint Romain. True to site, even in a warmer vintage such as this, it remains bright and lifted, with notes of raspberry, earth and chalk framed by the finest of tannins. An example of just how good wines from this unsung appellation can be.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER
The Domaine de Chassorney was begun by Frédéric Cossard in 1996 with just a few small parcels in Saint-Romain and Auxey-Duresses and now comprises ten hectares of vines spread across several villages in the Côte de Beaune.
After several years working alongside Fred, from the 2022 vintage his old friend Aurélien Verdet has taken the reins at the domaine in earnest, making the wines in his family’s cellar in the village of Arcenant. Aurélien’s father was a pioneer of organic farming in Burgundy and so it comes as no surprise that he has continued Fred’s spirited work in the vines. Many of the parcels have now been farmed organically for several decades.
Much like his mentor, Aurelien practises long, gentle infusions of whole bunches for Pinot Noir, whilst the whites are pressed directly to concrete eggs for élevage. Built on a backbone of pristine fruit, the resulting wines are elegant, classical expressions of Burgundy.
