Though this is perhaps the most classically styled of Jakob’s 2019 releases, this is Mosel Riesling of rare verve and detail. Two and a half years of rest in large casks has produced a masterpiece that pairs ripe orchard fruits, hints of spice and an intense, stony minerality to dizzying effect.

De l’Aube à l’Aube 2020
Burgundy, France
From young vines of Pinot Noir planted over pure limestone in Uchizy, facing east, some three hundred metres above sea level. The grapes were fermented as whole bunches for ten days in cuve, left to infuse without pigeage or remontage, before being pressed off to large foudres for one year of élevage. Bottled by hand directly from the casks, in this warmer vintage soft, supple tannins frame woodsy notes of black fruits, earth and spice making for a unique, compelling take on the grape.

Le Coste Rosso 2016
Lazio, Italy
Sangiovese from bush vines planted in the highest part of their ‘Le Coste’ vineyard at a density of 10,000 plants per hectare. Grapes were harvested at perfect maturity and began fermentation as mostly whole bunches, before being crushed and continuing to macerate for a further month. After pressing, the wine spent twenty months in old casks, rendering a complex, elegant wine that wows with fine tannins and delicate notes of red berries, truffle and earth.
