MENDALL
Abeurador 2022
Catalonia, Spain

Macabeo from forty five year old vines planted in perhaps the family’s greatest cru, Abeurador, over clay, limestone and sand, some 420 metres above sea level in Vilalba dels Arcs. The grapes were destemmed and the wine fermented on the skins for four days, before being pressed to vats until the following spring. A hazy shade of amber in the glass, it carries a gentle spritz but retains a beautiful drive, offering heady notes of citrus, chalk and brine.

Sauvignon Blanc from two parcels: fifty five year old vines planted over schist, and thirty year old vines over clay. The grapes were fermented as whole bunches for a week, before being pressed to vats until the following spring. From a cooler year, this offers soaring aromas of elderflower, tempered by fine tannins, pith and zest. A highly original expression of the grape.

Chenin Blanc from three small parcels of old vines planted over schist. The grapes are pressed directly straight to cuve, where the wine remained for ten months. This warmer vintage has produced a vibrant wine hazy with ripe stone fruit, citrus and flint. As always, this is as pure an expression of the grape as you will find.
