LA PASQUA features a selection that is sure to impress over Easter. From some of our most sought after producers, these pure, vibrant wines are just the thing for the festive table.

QUARTICELLO
Despina 2022
Emilia-Romagna, Italy

A wonderfully fresh, cloudy sparkling wine made with the pretty, perfumed local variety, Malvasia di Candia. Initially fermented in vat, the wine is transferred to bottle with a little must for the second fermentation. The gentle bubbles carry pure, vibrant flavours of grapefruit zest before a clean, salty finish. The perfect wine for celebrating the arrival of La Primavera.

Malvasia di Candia

DOMAINE SAUVETERRE
Bouchat 2021
Burgundy, France

Chardonnay from a parcel of forty year old vines planted over heavy clay in Montbellet. The grapes were pressed slowly to barrel for a year of elévage and this cooler vintage has produced a more delicate, nuanced wine which pairs stone fruits, white flowers and chalky minerals to beautiful effect.

Chardonnay

CANTINA GIARDINO
Primo Aprile 2021
Campania, Italy

This is made up entirely of Rovello, a relative of Greco, from a ninety year old parcel planted over volcanic soils in Taurasi. The grapes were macerated on the skins for four days, before being pressed to chestnut casks for a year of rest. A relative of Greco, this somehow feels lighter on its feet, the perfume more lifted and the tannins a little less coarse, it combines citrus and smoke to brilliant effect.

Rovello

DOMAINE DE L’OCTAVIN
Ganache 2022
Jura, France

Grenache from a parcel farmed by Claude Ughetto in the Vaucluse, fermented as whole bunches for a month before being pressed to cuve for a short rest. Though light in colour and low in alcohol, it is full of character, pairing sunkissed fruit and Provençal herbs to brilliant effect. A wine that would best be enjoyed chilled out in the sunshine, ideally alongside some pissaladière.

FRÉDÉRIC COSSARD
Zapoï 2021
Burgundy, France

This Vin de France is a declassified Beaujolais-Villages that features Gamay from a number of parcels around Villié-Morgon. The grapes were fermented as whole bunches for a fortnight, before a short rest in concrete eggs. A gorgeous, pale hue in the glass, this really draws you in with soaring notes of raspberry and stones, whilst the palate impresses with a pleasant blood-orange bitterness that offers no shortage of refreshment. This sums up everything we love about Beaujolais.

GUTTAROLO
Miro 2022
Puglia, Italy

If only all Primitivo was as joyful and uplifting as this. Here the grapes are fermented on the skins for a week and aged in vats until the beginning of the following spring. Bottled young and brimming with life, it is bright cherry red in the glass and heady with earthy, sweet flavours of plum, beets and iron. Pure and vibrant, it works so well alongside the kind of rustic dishes you find in Puglia’s trattorie.
