Wines to Celebrate Springtime

LA PRIMAVERA offers a selection of perfumed, complex wines from some of our most sought-after producers, carrying with them the optimism of spring.

QUARTICELLO
Despina 2023
Emilia-Romagna, Italy

A wonderfully fresh, cloudy sparkling wine made with the pretty, perfumed local variety, Malvasia di Candia. Initially fermented in vat, the wine is transferred to bottle with a little must for the second fermentation. The gentle bubbles carry pure, vibrant flavours of grapefruit zest before a clean, salty finish. The perfect wine for celebrating the arrival of La Primavera.

Malvasia di Candia

AJOLA
Bianco Pic Nic 2023
Umbria, Italy

A blend of Trebbiano and Malvasia planted over clay and limestone in Pitigliano. The grapes were pressed directly to vats for a short rest, producing a fragrant, zesty white that offers no shortage of refreshment. As the name suggests, we can think of few things we’d rather drink outside in the sunshine.

Trebbiano, Malvasia Toscana

CANTINA GIARDINO
Gaia 2022
Campania, Italy

Fiano from a ninety year old vineyard planted some five hundred metres above sea level. It was fermented on skins for four days, before a year of rest in both chestnut and mulberry casks. This wows with complex aromatics of white flowers, chalk and minerals, whilst fine tannins lead to a long, salty finish.

LAMORESCA
Nerocapitano 2025
Sicily, Italy

Nerocapitano is what the locals in Filippo’s village call Frappato. The fruit here comes from twenty year old vines planted over clay and sandstone. The grapes were fermented on the skins for a fortnight, before being pressed off to concrete vats for a short rest. Light, bright and perfumed with red cherry, blood orange and wildflowers – served chilled, it is one of our favourite reds for the sunshine.

BENOIT CAMUS
Château Roulant 2023
Beaujolais, France

Gamay from vines up to sixty years old, from a number of parcels and terroirs. This spent two weeks macerating as whole bunches, before being pressed off to concrete and cuve for a short élevage. From a cooler vintage, there is a luminous quality to the deep cherry-red fruit and an earthy mineral note from the varied soils that make this incredibly moreish.

LES ÂNES AILÉS
Pierrot 2024
Roussillon, France

Grenache and a touch of Carignan from a friend’s vineyards planted over clay and limestone in Calce. Two thirds of the grapes were destemmed, whilst the remainder were kept at whole bunches, and after a week of maceration, the grapes were pressed off to vats until spring. Light, bright and crunchy, the red fruits are seasoned gently with woody herbs and warming spice, making for an easygoing wine full of southern charm.
