Lazio, Italy
Inspired by Clementine and Gianmarco’s time working for the great vignerons of France, this Syrah comes from young vines planted over volcanic soils almost five hundred metres above sea level. The grapes fermented as whole bunches for a fortnight, before being pressed to old barrels for a year of élevage. Perfumed with brambly fruit, black olive and brine, it screams lamb on the grill.

Vecchie Varietà 2024
Veneto, Italy
This wonderfully unique wine comes from a tiny, twenty year old vineyard planted with a selection of ancient heirloom varieties once common in the Colli Euganei. A true field blend, the varieites were harvested together and fermented on the skins for a week, with a small percentage of whole bunches in the mix. Aged in vats until the following spring, the result is perhaps the ultimate trattoria wine, the kind you can serve at cellar temperarture and drink with gusto alongside the region’s wonderful local fare.

ROMUALD VALOT
Électron Libre 2024
Beaujolais, France
This year’s Électron Libre is a little different, essentially being a blend of grapes from the three different parcels that usually make up their Beaujolais-Villages, which come from old vines planted over granite some 300–400 metres above sea level in Quincié and Beaujeu. Possessing a little gas on opening, air reveals a light, bright and vibrant wine that pairs red berries and salty minerals to brilliant effect.
